They Walk Among Us!

One day I was walking down the beach with
some friends when someone shouted.....
'Look at that dead bird!'
Someone looked up at the sky and said...'where?'

They walk among us!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
While looking at a house, my brother asked the
estate agent which direction was north because
he didn't want the sun waking him up every morning..
She asked, 'Does the sun rise in the north?'
My brother explained that the sun rises in the east
and has for sometime. She shook her head and said,
'Oh, I don't keep up with all that stuff.....'

They Walk Among Us!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My colleague and I were eating our lunch in our cafeteria,
when we overheard an admin girl talking about the
sunburn she got on her weekend drive to the beach.
She drove down in a convertible, but said
she 'didn't think she'd get sunburned
because the car was moving'..

They Walk Among Us!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was hanging out with a friend when we saw a woman
with a nose ring attached to an earring by a chain.
My friend said, 'Ouch! The chain must rip
out every time she turns her head!"
I had to explain that a person's nose and ear
remain the same distance apart no
matter which way the head is turned...

They Walk Among Us !
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I couldn't find my luggage at the airport baggage area and
went to the lost luggage office and reported the loss.
The woman there smiled and told me not to worry
because she was a trained professional and
said I was in good hands. 'Now,' she asked me,
'Has your plane arrived yet?'...
(I work with professionals like this.)

Mark McGwire Admits using Steroids

CNN reports: Former Cardinals slugger Mark McGwire admits using steroids in 1998 when he broke Roger Maris' home run mark. This came shortly after McGwire fell short of Hall of Fame this past week.

Former A's slugger failed in his fourth year as candidate to be voted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame on Wednesday. McGwire received 128 votes (23.7 %), 10 more than last year and matching the total from his first two times on the ballot. Eighth on the career list with 583 homers, he has been stigmatized since evading questions from Congress in 2005 about steroids use.

McGwire, who broke Roger Maris' single-season home run record while with the St. Louis Cardinals, was hired in October as the Cardinals' hitting coach. He is a member of the 500-HR club, finished his career with 1,414 RBIs and .394 career on-base percentage.

Rare coin fetches over $3.7 million

Rare coin fetches over $3.7 million in auction
MIAMI (Reuters)

MIAMI (Reuters) – A rare 1913 U.S. coin once owned by an Egyptian king and later featured in a famous U.S. TV detective series was sold for more than $3.7 million (2.3 million pounds) in a public auction in Florida, the auctioneers said on Friday.

The so-called Liberty Head nickel, one of only five known of that specific date and design, was sold "in spirited bidding" to a private East Coast coin collector in Orlando late on Thursday, said Greg Rohan, president of Dallas, Texas-based Heritage Auctions. The buyer wished to remain anonymous.

The $3,737,500 price for the five-cent coin included a 15 percent buyer's premium.

"It is probably the most famous United States rare coin," Rohan said in a statement.

Once part of the coin collection owned by Egypt's King Farouk, who was deposed in 1952, the Liberty nickel changed hands several times and featured as part of the plot in a 1973 episode of the well-known CBS TV series "Hawaii Five-O."

The value of the rare coin, which was made at the Philadelphia Mint with the Miss Liberty design, crossed the million dollar mark in 2003.

Truth and Honesty

This little humorous story was sent to me by a friend. There is so much ironic truth, it's astounding.

Being a teenager and getting a tattoo seem to go hand and hand these days. I wasn't surprised when one of my daughter's friends showed me a delicate little Japanese symbol on her hip. "Please don't tell my parents," she begged.

"I won't," I promised. "By the way, what does that stand for?"

"Honesty," she said.

New Laws for a New Year

According to CNN, Legislatures in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico met in 2009, leading to the enactment of 40,697 laws, many of which take effect January 1.

New laws cover a variety of areas, from texting and tanning beds to human trafficking and seat-belt safety.

New Hampshire, Oregon and Illinois join 16 other states that prohibit motorists from sending text messages while driving.

In Oregon a new law requires children under the age of 16 to wear a seat belt on an all-terrain vehicle or in a car while on public property.

Beginning January 1, same-sex couples will be able to marry in New Hampshire, the state joins Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont and Iowa in legalizing same-sex marriages.

A California measure that limits trans fat in restaurant food also takes effect January 1. Enacted in 2008, it requires restaurants to use oils, margarine and shortenings that have less than half a gram of trans fat per serving. A similar provision will apply to baked goods in 2011.

In North Carolina, a statewide smoking ban in bars and restaurants will take effect, the nation's biggest producer of tobacco, has drawn mixed reactions.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot
And never brought to mind
Should auld acquaintance be forgot

And days of auld lang syne
