Wedding Ring - Why the Ring Finger

Why do we wear a wedding ring on the ring finger and not the middle, index or pinkie or even the thumb? Well here is an interesting viewpoint which kinda makes sense. No matter whether it is the truth or not, it is a really cool legend and a neat experiment. I've heard it told a few different ways so you may recognize parts of it from all of those trillions of emails we all get now. How about snail mail? Does anybody, anybody, ever, ever send a real letter anymore? Does anyone receive anything besides bills and ads in their mail? If you do consider yourself among the lucky ones. If you want to do something special for this holiday season. Write a real sit down pen and paper letter to your loved ones. But I digress, boy how did I get so off of the subject? Oh, ok I didn't rant for too long. Here's that viewpoint I was talking about when I first began this paragraph...Try this little experiement it is pretty cool.

Thumb represents your Parents

Second (Index) finger represents your Siblings

Middle finger represents your-Self

Fourth (Ring) finger represents your spouse

& the Last (Little) finger represents your children

First, open your palms, face to face, like you were praying holding the tips together,

Bend the middle fingers (representing your-Self) down pointing back to You and hold them together, back to back. while still holding the remaining three fingers and the thumb - tip to tip.

Now, try to separate your thumbs (representing the parents)...,

they will open, because your parents are not destined to live with you lifelong, and have to leave you sooner or later.

Please join your thumbs as before and separate your Index fingers (representing siblings)....,

they will also open, because your brothers and sisters will have their own families and will have to lead their own separate lives.

Now join the Index fingers and separate your Little fingers (representing your children)....,

they will open too, because the children also will get married and settle down on their own some day.

Finally, join your Little fingers, and try to separate your Ring fingers (representing your spouse).
You will be surprised to see that you just CANNOT.....,

because Husband & Wife have to remain together all their lives - through thick and thin!!
